Closing the Eyes to see That Which the Retina Refuses to Acknowledge

The project includes archive materials relating to the Japanese artist Katsushika Oei of late 19th century Edo period, daughter to the Ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai. Materials in the form of a letter (1840s-1850s) by the hand of Oei with instructions for producing a red pigment; a screen shot of google image search on the japanese traditional colour “enji”; an cropped illustration of Hokusai and Eijo in their lodgings, Ink on paper, before 1893, originally painted by Tsuyuki Kōshō.
