Sjikt, lag, strata, and Lime Basin, 2021

The work Sjikt, lag, strata consists of castings of roof tiles that are shown in layers with printed versions of the artist Orra White Hitchcock's (1796 - 1868) illustrations. White Hitchcock was an artist and one of America's first female scientific illustrators. She drew in the field during expeditions with her partner who was a geologist and illustrated hundreds of large posters that he used in his lectures. This work combines illustrations of geological cross-sections, maps, prehistoric animals and fossils with castings of biomass from ancient times in the form of polycarbonate.
